Voice garbled?

Yesterday it was my first flight on the network with X-Plane and latest client (downloaded this week).
 

When I wanted to check my voice by sending on COM1 and listening on COM2 at the same time, as suggested in one of the video's I saw, I heard a lot of garbled noise on COM2 when pressing the transmit button and seeing in the top left corner COM1. The garble had some relation with my speaking but could not be understood.

Is there a better way to test it?

What could be the problem?

    Solved myself, there was a hardware switch on my headset, muting the microphone.
