POSCON's path forward relies on funding. I have been self-funding this project for many years and I can no longer continue to do this. Going forward, there will be two parts to the POSCON project:

1.) For-profit, under Positive Control LLC

2.) Non-profit, under POSCON Inc. which will continue to support a free public membership

The for-profit side of this project is being formed in order to help fund the non-profit organization. My team will be focusing our development efforts exclusively on the for-profit business.

This announcement here I believe, was the killing blow.

The whole situation is a Catch-22.

On one hand, POSCON is FAR from ready to be a paid-for service, with practically no one online ever. At this moment, there are 0 flights on POSCON. Vatsim reports 704 flights, IVAO reports 475 with a top of 852 the past 24 hours. Why would I pay to log on to POSCON and do my flight in complete silence? All the bells and whistles POSCON and the surrounding software (which I like a lot, the launcher is very good) has to offer mean nothing if there is no one around to use it. And furthermore, announcing that the free public membership members are shafted from any updates from now on surely doesn't help at all.

On the other hand, POSCON won't ever become a new Vatsim unless people start to pay. I haven't made a single flight, I was scared away in the Beta, when pretty much all information I recieved was how I could be banned or punished, even for small infractions like using the wrong terminology when asking for a clearance. The reply I got when voicing those concerns in Discord can be boiled down to "be better, or use ghost lol". It was never meant for casual flyers, and they recieved what they ordered.

For all intents and purposes as it looks today, the answer to the original post would be:  Yes, POSCON is dead.

    Hi Peter,

I think you misunderstood what he wrote there. There will be a free part and a paid one. The latter should finance the former so you don't have to pay in order to use POSCON.

Also you won't get punished for using wrong terminology when asking for a clearance. If possible, do you by any chance know who said it or possibly wrote it? That way I would have the greater picture and can either ask why the person claimed what he did or maybe it was in a specific context.

    Hi Chris,

    No problem!

But if you see above, my issue was not the same as Ralf's issue. And now I have more information on what is happening at least to me.

At any point during a flight from  the TRIP system, if I encounter a crash of the Launcher or if I go into ghost mode for whatever reason, I am not awarded the points for completing the trip.

If I then repeat the same trip again & I don't have a Launcher crash or enter Ghost mode, I still do not receive the points for the TRIP.

I can repeat the trip as many times as I want. But I simply will not receive the trip points. I will however receive the flight plan activation points.

At this point, I can say that this happens if I use the same flight number. It would be interesting to see if a change of flight number makes a difference.

It's not really the most important issue that needs fixing. But I think it's something that needs looking at.

    Hi!

So AJ has actually been writing something regarding that on the Discord server. Since I don't know whether you are on there as well I will paste it here:

    Quote

This will be fixed when we introduce the concept of a "flight"

The launcher needs to be modified when we do this. You will be able to resume the "flight" or start a new "flight" with the click of a button

The server will then reassociate your connection with that flight or start a new one, even if the connection was lost or in the case of a quick turn, you maintain the connection.

He then proposed to try using the PPOS procedure if the disconnection has been less than 15 minutes and see if you still won't get the points

    Hi Chris,

Just a quick confirmation that this works. I logged off from POSCON after completing 1 trip. Filed another flightplan (with a different callsign) & logged on, flew the trip & landed. Both trips were recognised. So it's all good.

But as Juvenal points out, if the Launcher crashes during the trip then that causes issues.

    Hi chief,

Thanks for reporting back! I have suspected that the issue is simply that you logged back in too early since the system 'saves' your flight in case the client crashes or something. But yeah, that's something that should be looked into.

Might have been shorter than 15min. Interesting that I filed two separate flightplans with different callsigns/flight numbers. When logging back in, I used the new callsign and after landing in Frankfurt, the two trips have been combined to one flight with the flightnumber for the flight back (and with both routes showing as one on the map).

That's something I have encountered on several occasions already. Even if I filed a flight plan beforehand (usually do that for the amount of sectors im gonna fly) and then sign out/sign in with a new callsign the line of the live map continues and it shows it as one flight only.
So the only thing I could advise is try to sign out, wait at least 15 mins before signing back in and checking if the historical flight path disappeared. Then it might work

Hm, that is, what I was doing - login inside X-Plane and then flying, the flight plan has been filed and clearance was requested via Web UI.

The one flight you mention is the one that states the completion message - but: I flew from EDDF to LOWW directly before the flight back and this one did not count, instead it shows as flight EDDF to EDDF - very weird ?

I did another flight after this one again from EDDF to LOWW and that one again is not marked as completed and did not count any passengers.

Well, I don't really mind if the points or the pax for the flight, but I do want to know what to do for everything working as expected. I will continue testing different settings as well as filing the FP via different ways (Simbrief, Poscon Website, SimToolkitPro, etc.) - maybe one day I will find the correct way... ?

    Ralf.

Regarding the EDDF to EDDF thing - how long were you disconnected at LOWW ebfore flying back if at all? If you log out, change callsign and log back in within I think it was 15 minutes the system assumes you had a disconnect and want to continue the previous flight. The result of that is it thinking it is one flight hence why it shows EDDF - EDDF.

    Hi team,

I just tried taking my first steps in the network, but I'm failing to launch the pilot client. I keep on getting this error message, re-installed launcher and pilot client with no success:

Unhandled exception: Error creating windows handle.

The installation of both, launcher and client went smoothly. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Sorry to drag this one up again, but this newbie is having the same issue.
Flight plan filed and pending (EGJJ-LOWI). Logon to CPDLC using LFRR (suggested in flight briefing page), connects and sends. No message comes back with squawk code. The "Clearance Request" button remains de activated and un clickable, as do all buttons on the ATC menu except logon.
    Anyone have any suggestions please?
    Thanks

    Pete

Did that occur at EGJJ only or somewhere else as well? Did you receive a message stating that connection was successful after doing the CPDLC logon request with LFRR?

Edit: I found out how to fix my sampling rate. Unfortunately my settings do not allow me to go up to the required sampling rate to fly on the POSCON network.

There is a tool called voicemeeter. Might be possible with that one - now directed to others since Jay managed to fix his issue

  9. Hi there Mal and welcome to POSCON!

I am not that certain I got your question. You should only tick that box if your callsign is your aircraft registration (e.g. OECFL or HV123B). If you have a specific callsign that contains the ICAO code of an airline, scheduled or unscheduled, or anything of the like you should enter that one there (e.g. EWG2WE or AUA1L) and add the registration in any case in the other fields box with REG/OEIEU or REG/OELBA etc.

I noticed that in the X-plane the machines e.g. A320 can also be represented as A320. In Prepar3d, however, only as CRj 700.
    What could be the reason?
    Many greetings, Eckart

It's your own model matching. You can set default aircrafts in the pilot client and if you dont have the model another aircraft has loggen in as you'll see them as a CRJ
