  1. I understand what you are saying and I do respect the fact you are trying to give constructive feedback.

We have many ATC applications to review and when we begin onboarding ATC, I feel like the online numbers will change. If they don't, you can be sure we will look into policy changes.

However, right now we are not willing to give up on this CBT policy until all other measures have been exhausted though. It is easier to set the tone now with the CBT, than to wait until we have 80000 active members and then try to change things to be more professional.

  2. Noted. Probably not going to change though and here is why:

First, you can access the service in the Ghost mode without watching the CBT. You get all the features except the ability to talk on the radio and be seen by other pilots.

Second, we are asking 20 minutes of your time for full access to this free service. I think that is a small price to pay.

    Thanks for your comments though.

  3. This is from our Discord where I addressed this very issue:

A lot of issues are coming in about not being able to receive a squawk code. A new server update was pushed a few nights ago that officially validates the Web UI > ATC > LOGON / STATUS > LOGON TO field and ensures it is a real FIR. The problem was, the database of valid FIRs was incomplete - I just fixed it this morning. Those who were having issues, please try again and this time use https://www.skyvector.com/ to validate the FIR you are in. For example, I filed a flight from VECC (FIR = VECF) to VABB (FIR = VABF). In this case, I would log into CPDLC using VECF. If my flight plan falls within the valid time window, then I will receive a CPDLC message from VECF. You can find the FIR name from browsing SkyVector (see the image below). NOTE: For any of the 48 contiguous United States, use "KUSA" instead of the FIR ID. As of this post, the error message does not work. If you put in bad data, it will return nothing.

  4. Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately, this ship has sailed. I think the real reason we decided not to allow complete freedom is we wanted to have a mix between gaming and simulation. We desire to have a professional platform, but we also understand that some people still view this as a game. In the end, we came up with a hybrid method.

We give you options for your display name on HQ, with the option to even go completely anonymous by using your user ID:

    Introducing POSCON Weekly VFR Sessions

Join us every Saturday between 1700z and 1930z as we staff up regional air traffic control towers on the Positive Control Network with live ATC.

This is a great opportunity to practice your aviation phraseology and get feedback from controllers on how you are doing, while simultaneously helping POSCON test the ATC system.

Come and enjoy your new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 with POSCON's high refresh/update rates and unmatched audio technology.

    How will it work?

Every Saturday, we will staff up a new air traffic control tower and guarantee air traffic control service from 1700z to 1930z.

What is the best way to participate?

That's totally up to you! The goal is for you to practice your phraseology and enjoy the most realistic VFR experience on any network available. Here are some suggestions though:

    • Spawn up at a ramp and request to join the traffic pattern.
    • Fly-in from a remote location.
    • Depart and fly a cross-country.

Where can I find more information?

Check this forum thread every Friday to learn what the weekly featured airport is and any specific procedures that will apply to that particular airfield.

    I am a newbie, can I attend?

Of course! These events are designed to accommodate all experience levels.

Attention Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 Users! Make sure multiplayer is turned off within the sim or you will see traffic that is not connected to POSCON.

  6. We are pleased to announce the release of POSCON's X-Plane Pilot Client 1.1 Beta 8. This release brings a whole host of changes including:

    • Completely new user interface.
    • Support for the new TCAS API that exists in X-Plane 11.50. Basically, this allows you to see more than 19 aircraft on TCAS and you no longer need to set up ASK21s.
    • VR support.
    • New multiplayer traffic library.
    • A much larger selection of multiplayer models. Yes, the Concorde is now in there!
    • New joystick/key bindings for ghost/unghost toggling.
    • The ability to control VHF radio volume from the virtual cockpit. This uses a custom LUA script that needs to be installed into the X-Plane\Resources\plugin\FlyWithLua\Scripts folder. See the UserGuide.pdf included with the new client for more information.
    • New connection dialog and logic.
    • Optional traffic labels.

Get the new pilot client by running the POSCON Launcher Client and it should auto-update your software. If it does not, run the Removal Tool and try a clean install of the POSCON Launcher Client.

  7. I am pleased to announce that Matt Bromback has been promoted to be our next Director of Training! As a real-world airline pilot, flight instructor, and flight simulation  enthusiast for over 20 years, Matt is more than qualified to serve as the Director of Training for the POSCON Network. Matt and I have known each other for over 10 years and have a history of flying together IRL at a previous airline job. We share a similar vision to how the network training will be designed and administered. I am confident he will be able to create the best training environment available on flight simulation for both virtual pilots and air traffic controllers alike. Join me in congratulating Matt on his new role!
