  1. FLAi was a massive undertaking into which many, many hours of time were devoted over the space of many, many months.  The fact that it was so large and comprehensive, and its licensing problem so sudden and without warning, that replacing it is an equally massive undertaking.

Unfortunately it's the sort of situation that many complain about but few step up to help.  I'm sure that given enough time, a new solution will emerge once someone decides they have the time and energy to take it on.  But like you said, that's extremely unlikely to be a short-term project.

  2. Did your first question ever get adequately answered?

You can launch X-Plane as you wish.  Doing so from the Launcher is just a convenience, and as far as I can tell is only there for symmetry because the FSX/P3D/MSFS client has a "Launch" button as well.  Your issue with the plugin not detecting the Launcher is not related to that.

Are you running the Launcher as an admin?

  3. Hi, all -- one VERY IMPORTANT NOTE.  When you open the Launcher and connect to POSCON, **DO NOT** select "Use Development Environment."  Leave that UN-CHECKED or else you will NOT be in the same server cluster as the rest of the Beta Testers for flight plan filing, squawk assignment, and visibility to each other and on the live map.  If you are connected and don't see yourself on the map, or don't see buttons within the Web UI becoming active, this should be the first thing you check for.  Thanks!

  4. From all of the staff, volunteers, and beta testers here at POSCON, we would like to offer you a welcome and thank you for joining us.  Many have worked and contributed over the past two years (and longer, in some cases) to make POSCON become the Online Aviation Network you’ve been waiting for.  Countless hours testing four popular Flight Simulator brands have created a seamless and global live multiplayer environment with a focus on new technologies and immersions.  We hope you enjoy the our new platform and experience new challenges and skills, and maybe make some new friends along the way.

To get started on POSCON, we recommend you spend a few minutes of your time and read the polices, procedures, and agreements before connecting for your first flight.  We ask this of you because POSCON aims to have the highest standards of users (pilots and controllers alike) and administrators.  Please follow the links below to begin familiarizing yourself with POSCON.

We also STRONGLY recommend you look through the resources available around the site.  In particular, these two documents should answer MOST of the questions you will have.

Please note that the number one question we are being asked right now is "How do I become an Air Traffic Controller on POSCON?" and the answer is SEE BELOW!  The second one is "When is ATC online?" and the answer is that they will be shown on the Live Map when available.  That availability will be sporadic but steadily growing as we continue to test and develop the ATC clients and support tools in our trek toward full open status.  You can also check https://forums.poscon.net/calendar/ as ATC availability will periodically be pre-published here; however, continue to use the Live Map to look as well, since often ATC coverage will inevitably be impromptu in nature.

Again, a sincere thank you for your interest and membership with the POSCON network.  If you need any help or assistance along the way, please reach our staff and volunteers for guidance.  Have fun!

    Sincerely,
    Michael M. and Rob S.

  5. Personally I love the Oshkosh idea.  But if we decide that can't work, here's a thought.

If we want to do something conducive to both GA and airliners, how about a combined event into Portland, Oregon?  KPSC to KTTD VFR along the Columbia River is a breathtaking sight on a flight that may be 1 to 1. 5 hours depending on type.  At the same time, the tube jockeys can fly KSFO to KPDX, for about the same duration.

  6. The official answer is that POSCON plans to support FS20 when it is released.

Unofficially, I believe I saw someone say in the POSCON Discord somewhere that it works with the existing FSX/P3D client!  While somewhat surprising, it seems to make sense because "SimConnect" is the protocol which connects external apps with FSX and P3D, and the development blogs and Q&As from MS regarding FS20 has said that SimConnect will continue to be supported.

So, long story short, it *may already* work.  Here's a thought -- try it and let us know!  (Just don't violate your NDA with MS!)

Is ADS-B, automatic position reporting,  installed on any aircraft in flight sim.  Freeware or Payware

ADS-B can be simulated on the controller's end regardless of the pilot's plane.  Unlike planes flying in the real world, the POSCON servers know the exact position of all planes flying on the network at any given time.  So a simulated ADS-B report wouldn't actually have to come from the user's plane.

    I'm sorry.  Voice with ATC

There's no ATC at all right now, neither voice nor text.  When it does come, it'll be via voice only, notwithstanding some CPDLC implementation for use while at cruise.

As for how soon to expect it, it'll be a bit further down the line.  Making sure the core pilot features are complete and stable will come first.  In the meantime, the radio system works and you can (and should) use it to make CTAF announcements by voice.

    @Andrew H. what is ATMs , TA,FE EC and WMs? @Andrew D.

VATSIM staff positions for each ARTCC / FIR / vACC include Air Traffic Managers, Training Administrators, Facility Engineers, Event Coordinators, and Webmasters.

Some of those functions are planned to be more centralized within POSCON than in VATSIM.

I understand the desire to have bot planes, it sounds promising and useful.

I just wonder, would these show up via TCAS in the POSCON pilot's plane(s) as well? ?

If I remember correctly from what I recall being discussed on this topic months ago, the bot planes are injected into the POSCON network server the same way live human-controlled planes are, so your Pilot Client should not be able to tell the difference.  In short, yes, they should all show up on your aircraft TCAS if my understanding is correct.

  11. I think it's also important to keep in mind that, as I understand it, division staff on POSCON will be minimal compared to that of the other major networks.  Much more of POSCON's leadership and administrative structure will be centralized.  So coming up with unique callsigns for each division may be unnecessary when so few people will be given them.

And... it also might be the case that when a staff member is on the POSCON network flying or controlling, they would just use a normal aircraft or ATC callsign.  Speaking about VATSIM, I can't recall a time when I saw a staff member connected to the pilot/ATC network with their staff callsign actually performing some staff-related role where it was critical that everyone knew they were staff.  Seems to me to be just another form of elitism.
