Network Directors Andrew Heath Posted May 18, 2019 Network Directors Posted May 18, 2019 Hello all! For those of you wishing to help POSCON, I finally have something worth-while to ask of you. I am sure most of you are familiar with OpenStreetMap (OSM): https://www.openstreetmap.org/ We will be using a version of this map for our "web viewer" and I am requesting that each of you take a look at your home airport(s) and make sure that the gates, tarmacs, taxiways, and runways are all up-to-date and have no visible errors. If you want your airport to look correct on the POSCON map, it is important that you make the necessary edits on OSM. Every few months, we will download a new version of OSM and launch it on our own private tile server - these updates will include any changes you made. In order to edit OSM, you need an account with them. Below, I have attached what I classify as a "visible error" at KJFK: I went ahead and fixed the errors at KJFK on OSM and here is the revised version: 1
Nicola Altafini (1016055) Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Hello Andrew, Is this tool the same thing of IVAO webeye?
Network Directors Andrew Heath Posted May 20, 2019 Author Network Directors Posted May 20, 2019 @Nicola Altafini Not sure - it is widely used throughout the FS community for various map apps, so it wouldn't surprise me if it were being used for IVAO. If you edit OSM, you not only helping POSCON, you are also helping other programs as well.

Sorry for the noob question, does that include labeling the taxiways as well?
Network Directors Andrew Heath Posted June 15, 2019 Author Network Directors Posted June 15, 2019 @Bahaeddine El-Zarif Yes
Erwin Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 There's quite some discrepancy between the various OSM airports in the way that parking positions and taxilanes (no official OSM feature) are implemented (lines -vs- points). It would be nice to be able to see how the OSM changes influence the POSCON map. When will this POSCON map be accessible so we can cross check our work?
Network Directors Andrew Heath Posted January 22, 2020 Author Network Directors Posted January 22, 2020 Soon. Here are a few previews for you. 1
Erwin Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Ah great, thanks Andrew! I understand from these pictures that the stand numbers aren't that import as they don't show up on the map at all. The main focus seems to be the taxiways. Do correct me if I'm wrong though.
Network Directors Andrew Heath Posted January 24, 2020 Author Network Directors Posted January 24, 2020 Stand numbers will eventually become important, but not in the immediate future.
Ken Pryor (1017371) Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I'll take a look at good ol' KRSV and see how it looks
Network Directors Andrew Heath Posted May 11, 2020 Author Network Directors Posted May 11, 2020 We are likely moving away from OpenStreetMap due to limitations.
