    Hi,

first may I say it's nice to find someone looking to move virtual aviation forwards!

I've been a regular controller on Vatsim and pilot since 2011, so this is very interesting stuff.

My question is - I'm guessing that Poscon will seek to start in the US initially, but what's the planned timescale for expansion beyond that?

    Thanks

    Rich

    Hi Rich, and welcome.

I moved your topic to the POSCON forum. There are two forums here... one for AirDailyX (ADX) which is a flight simulation news organization that POSCON LLC owns and then there is a general discussion for the POSCON Network project.

To answer your question... yes, we are definitely looking to expand to other countries and regions. We have started exploring this expansion using the "clubs" feature found here: https://forums.poscon.net/clubs/

Basically users nominate their favorite air traffic division and we will create it. If the division can provide all of the following requirements: active users, SOPs, and sector data, we will release it during beta testing. If the division does not achieve those three things, then we will have to delay its release until after beta.

    Hope that answers your question!

Eurocontrol has been using these things called FABs, functional airspace blocks, whereby a group of countries (or FIRs within countries, in some cases) work together, a bit like as a division to improve links between them, upgrade to combined and compatible software, decrease costs, coordinate airspace changes and much more. They're generally made up of 2-3 FIRs, so perhaps that might work as a grouping solution for Europe, or else making similar concepts, maybe by grouping what are likely to be higher traffic FIRs with lower ones, so as to encourage these low traffic areas to increase traffic.

What I am about to say is by no means set in stone.

We were thinking that we would group countries by similar training regimes. So for example, if we could use 85% or more of the generic training material from one country in another country, then those two countries would effectively fall under the same division. If the two countries' procedures, methods, phraseology, etc. were significantly different, then we would group them in a different division.

I do like the idea of these FABs though as well. We are going to continue to explore the topic and, as always, opinions are welcome.

  3. Hello and welcome to everyone interested in the Oman Division of POSCON! I have created this forum to explore the possibility of releasing a division for Oman during beta testing. The only way we will release with this division is if enough people show interest, so get all your friends to join this club and make sure that they stay active! If there is enough interest and discussion, we will devote our resources to creating the necessary infrastructure. We are going to need your help though with sector file construction and writing procedures! If you have any interest in helping us write this material, please email [email protected]

On that note, will ES plugins from vatsim be compatible with the poscon variant?

There has been no talk about eliminating the ability to use plug-ins.

@Andrew will the voice co-ordination be like the VCCS system in use with euroscope?

also, will there be any compatibility with vStrips, as it's really good as an aerodrome controller to be able to use the procedures real-world use.

I would be happy to message you if you need any clarity.

Voice is being pulled from the ATC client and being added to a completely new client. This will allow users to use voice on a separate machine or maybe mobile device!

vStrips is a plug-in correct? If so, then it should be compatible.

  5. Just to clarify a few things...

    1. Uploaded files are visible to all members, so that people know what has been uploaded for a certain division. However...
    2. Files are NOT downloadable by anyone but POSCON staff to prevent unwanted distribution.
    3. If you want a more secure upload, we can arrange the files to not be visible... just email [email protected]

    Thanks!

  6. We are introducing a way for people who want to help contribute to the development of POSCON to do so... by crowdsourcing data.

In order to get a division up and running, we need three things: people, SOPs, and sector data. If you have the ability to contribute either of the latter two, you can now do so by submitting files to our file repository.

Please note, that you must OWN the file or have PERMISSION to submit the file in order to contribute it to POSCON. If you do not own the file or do not have permission to submit it, DO NOT SUBMIT THE FILE!

I have created only two categories, but will start to create more categories/sub-categories as we populate the repository.

You can access the repository here:

    https://forums.poscon.net/files/

    Thanks!

Would we have to use the ATC client or could we use euroscope maybe? Im an S1 Training on VATSIM ATM

    Euroscope is the ATC client.

Gergely is porting a version of Euroscope over to POSCON to use. At the moment, there are two user-interfaces planned: one for US-controllers with US functionality and another for Europeans with European functionality. Any additional user-interfaces are not yet planned, but we would be more than happy to research them if enough interest (and data) is received.

sure, but may I know if the client will be mainly be have a look alike to Euroscope or something more used in Europe? Or can be both?

There will be UIs for both US-based radars AND European-based radars. We can include more UIs for different areas, but we don't have an abundant amount of information on other scopes. If you are looking for something specific, it will help if you could gather that information and send it to us.

  9. Any supervisor function that can be automated, is being automated. However, there are some things that simply cannot be automated, and for those issues we have devised all new tools for supervisors. Our goal is to operate with a skeleton crew as much as possible.

POSCON will have a new role though that will require a lot of work. We envision the people who enjoyed being SUPs on VATSIM/IVAO, will most likely apply for this new role. This new role is called "moderator" and it will have a whole new set of responsibilities attached with it. I will not go into great detail about it, but expect to learn more about it when beta is released.

Flightplanning can in some cases be one of my favorite things to do. As previously stated, some form of ACARS is being worked on; given that ACARS works with the company flight dispatch, it seems like an obvious option to allow for company flight dispatch, maybe with a seporate atc-like qualification. it'd probably improve the quality of people's flightplans, as well as allowing them to ask things to "the company" such as stands, flight codes etc

I think I said it to you in the past, but you are like a mind-reader! :-D

  11. Hijacking would be the only squawk code we will NOT allow.

Divisions will not control airline scheduling, that will be network level and handled by an automated system.

We will be providing weather injections, especially for winds aloft. We are actually still working out how to make sure all the weather engines play "nice" with each other though.

Since haven’t any topic or information about the pilot and atc ratting so its that will be have any news about that and also maybe some people are provide and outstanding information or idea will they have another ranking for them ?

As mentioned in other topics, our training system is rather unique and I don't want to get into major details about it yet. It will separate us from other networks.

    region and poscon staff

As knowledge, according at both network we also have an some region so they would be also maint their division of each section so as an poscon will also have that ?

An other point they also have some rank like VP So they would be a heard of each fusion and almost some member for each group will respond to him so will poscon also have ?

We are not at the point where we are selecting divisional staff (and won't be for a while). Quite frankly, we are doing our very best to eliminate bureaucracy from the network so I don't expect there to be many position available when we do start to promote people.

    Joining the alpha test

as we are also at the beta test but is that also have some people can be select to join the early alpha test so they can provide more information  during the beta and also they can sign the NDA for that

Alpha testing will not be open. We are currently not soliciting for alpha testers.

Additionally, any possibilities for rating transfer from IVAO/VATSIM?

For ATC, ratings will transfer for an undetermined period of time after initial release. When that time is up, then we will no longer offer the rating transfer. We may or may not offer this for the pilot ratings as well.

  14. Here is an answer from a friend who has flown the Airbus A319/A320/A321 for a number of years:

    Quote

Most likely Flaps 3 Landing. Even with Single Engine it would be Flaps 3 landing. We use Flaps 1 or 2 for takeoff and occasionally Flaps 3 outta DCA. It would be a mistake or a jam if they were to land Flaps 2.

The problem with that is that it's nothing like CPDLC in the real world and having to get your clearance from the PMs loses a lot of your immersion in the sim. Personally I just think that it's tacky, annoying, and I cringe hard whenever I get a PM with one of those, usually departing OMDB. It's also a bit nonsensical because it assumes that all aircraft are datalink-capable - when I fly IFR in my C206, it most certainly is not... but that doesn't stop a controller from hitting the button and sending me a "datalink" clearance. Hoppie's system (www.hoppie.nl) is the best thing for datalink on VATSIM, but unfortunately it is used by so few controllers and even fewer pilots. Moreover, datalink clearances are primarily meant to reduce frequency congestion; the controller should pay just as much attention to aircraft regardless of whether the clearance is being passed by voice or datalink. Nonetheless, I'm really excited to be able to use CPDLC properly with POSCON.

That being said, shortened readbacks are a bad idea and you honestly won't find such a procedure being commonplace in many places around the world. As a controller, one has to ensure that the clearance is received correctly and the only surefire way to tell that, short of waiting and seeing that the pilot is flying the wrong heading/SID, expecting the wrong runway, climbing through his cleared level, etc; is through receiving a readback of the clearance in full. That is, a readback that includes every bit of information (not necessarily every word, lol) that was included in the clearance. Otherwise, all I'll be doing is asking the pilot to "confirm X, Y and Z" until they do. /my2cents

I agree with most everything said here.

Just something to note though... a PDC can still be sent to a General Aviation aircraft. The difference is many GA guys don't pick up their PDC because they don't have the datalink capabilities in their aircraft. However, if they were to go to a computer terminal in say, the FBO, and their company had access to this type of information, they could probably receive a PDC.

I think the controller client would benefit from some kind of anti-aliasing, as ES looks horrible on higher resolution screens - on that note, UI scaling, both for the pop-up windows and the top bar/dropdowns, as even on my 4k laptop not everything fits on the screen

This is a great suggestion, and I agree with you. I have passed it on to the developers.
