After a lot of thought and consideration, we have decided to add a throttled release plan to our roadmap which we are calling the "Invite-Only Beta" phase. This means that initially, POSCON will only be available to those individuals that have been given an invite code. This new managed plan allows us the flexibility to continue developing features while also rapidly responding to support issues. Roadmap to Release All times are subject to change! Release Everything open. 24/7 World Unlimited NO Approximately 1 year after Invite-Only Phase 1 release. Beta Details Who can participate? Users must possess a valid invite code in order to activate their account and become part of the beta. The following restrictions apply: Users must be at least 16 years of age or older. Users 13-15 years of age can participate only if POSCON has received hand-written parental consent. Users on any restricted or watch lists are prohibited from participating. How can you get an invite code? Initially, these codes will be distributed by our testing team and staff. We will also pick 50 people that stop by the FSExpo 2019 booth, and have registered for POSCON, to be part of the first Invite-Only beta. Winners will be emailed after FSExpo and receive a code when we release the first Invite-Only beta phase. Later, each person who is a member of the Invite-Beta will have an opportunity to invite their friends to the server. Will the Beta be open all the time, or will there be specific operating times? The POSCON Invite-Only Beta will not be open to the public 24 hours / 7 days a week; it will instead be open during specific operating times to ensure ATC and Moderator coverage as well as allow us to deploy changes without affecting user experience. As we become more comfortable with our progress and staffing, we will relax the schedule to include more operating times. Are the operating times fixed? No, the schedule will vary. On the 25th day of each month, POSCON will post an updated schedule to the public for the next month's operating times and featured ATC region. Will the Beta be "open world" or feature specific areas? It will be open world, but each month we will be focusing on a specific region in regards to ATC coverage. This does not mean that ATC will be restricted to controlling in the featured region of the month, it just means that we will ensure coverage in that region during the posted times. I want to be an ATC, can I sign up? No, ATC are hand-picked for all open beta phases. When will ATC open up to the public? ATC will open to the public when POSCON officially releases in 2020. Will ATC ratings transfer from legacy networks? Yes, a user's global rating will transfer from legacy networks for a period of 6 months after the official release of POSCON in 2020. Local certifications will be left up to the divisions and sub-divisions to decide whether they transfer or not. When will the Division Staff be selected and how will that work? POSCON will begin selecting Division staff the first few weeks after the Invite-Only beta release. Division staff will initially be appointed by POSCON staff, but later we plan to introduce a way for members to get involved in the selection process.

Good morning all! Here is just a quick update on our progress since January: We launched a new marketing site! If you haven't seen it already, take a look at https://www.poscon.net . For now, we are consider this site a "launch page", but long term it will evolve into a landing page used for attracting prospective members to the network. When we launch, existing members will rarely visit this page since they will have a "portal" to access all the network features. A few notes about the marketing site: We are aware of some graphical errors on large monitors and are working to fix those errors. Expect the content to evolve over time, but the branding will remain the same for the foreseeable future. Pulling from internal recommendations from our established team, we expanded our closed beta team to over 65 testers. While no decision has been made yet in regards to further expansion, there is a pretty good possibility we will expand again in the near future. Both pilot and ATC development are making amazing headway! Expect a flood of previews to start showing up on social media in the near future. This is a great opportunity to practice your aviation phraseology and get feedback from controllers on how you are doing, while simultaneously helping POSCON test the ATC system. Come and enjoy your new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 with POSCON's high refresh/update rates and unmatched audio technology. How will it work? Every Saturday, we will staff up a new air traffic control tower and guarantee air traffic control service from 1700z to 1930z. What is the best way to participate? That's totally up to you! The goal is for you to practice your phraseology and enjoy the most realistic VFR experience on any network available. Here are some suggestions though: Spawn up at a ramp and request to join the traffic pattern. Fly-in from a remote location. Depart and fly a cross-country. Where can I find more information? Check this forum thread every Friday to learn what the weekly featured airport is and any specific procedures that will apply to that particular airfield. I am a newbie, can I attend? Of course! As promised, here is the January 2019 POSCON development update: I am pleased to announce that on Saturday, January 19th, we officially began Closed Beta testing. Our initial test consisted of a small group of pilots and controllers that signed onto the POSCON Network and conducted a scheduled test that lasted approximately two hours. The test was a huge success and we are very excited about the next one! We plan on conducting at least 3-4 more scheduled tests before we expand our testing pool (i.e. add more people). We are not revealing a timeline of when this expansion may occur, so please do not ask. We are also no longer accepting any more testers or applications for testers. That is all for now! @Tim S I think you summarize the shortcomings of the VATSIM model very well. A lot of this is completely up for discussion. We are a feedback-driven company... that is to say, we really make it our mission to listen to the concerns of the users and try to figure out common sense solutions based on their feedback. Having said that, I also have a lot of great ideas in regards to ATC training, but none of which are even close to implementation at this point, they are merely concepts. I am somewhat reluctant to get into a major discussion about ATC training because of how far off that part of the project is. ATC training will be the last thing we develop because it is the least needed. When we launch into Open Beta, we can utilize a large group of well-qualified controllers that already exist on multiple networks. As we progress through the Open Beta stage, we will be shifting our focus to ATC training, Division and Sub-Division development, etc. What I will say for certain though is that we will not streamline the airspace to make it easier for hobby controllers. I believe we can create a solution that maintains realism while also ensuring quality and efficiency.

Hello All, My Name is Trevor Hale, I am the Owner of http://www.cockpitbuilders.com a flight sim community for those that want to build their own Flight Simulator. Cockpitbuilders.com turns 10 Years old this August and prior to that I was a Director at www.Mycockpit.org . I am an avid Flight Simulator Hobiest and have been a Vatsim Member since 2002. I still use vatsim 3-4 days a week, and Pilot Edge just doesn't have coverage where I like to fly, not to mention the steep price tag. I have converted a Real Beechcraft 99B (N38AK) into a King Air 350i that I now Stream on Twitch with 3 nights a week. How does one determine that in an objective way? I have been controlling on VATSIM a long time and most of my time has been spent controlling in troll central... New York... so admittedly I am bias. As a result of my experiences, what I can say with a certain fact is that the percentage of emergency occurrences in the online environment is much higher than in the real world. The main reason for this is pilot error... i.e. "my autopilot failed" when in fact the user just failed to know how to operate it correctly, or "we are stalling" because the user tried to climb too high, too early in their flight. Ultimately we are trying to simulate a realistic environment, and when emergencies are being declared at a much higher rate than the real world, then we are failing to simulate the real world correctly. What I can promise is that we will use stastical analysis of the number of emergencies declared over the first year and, if those numbers do not match the occurrence rate in the real world, then we will change our policy. But for now, I am not sure anyone can convince me that having a policy other than VATSIMs is a good idea.

We will probably keep the VATSIM policy in regards to emergencies. Remember though on POSCON, pilots will be able to leave feedback about a controller that goes into a moderation cue. So in the case of that ATC that only had 3 airplanes and refused the emergency, on POSCON, if the pilot leaves bad feedback, then a moderator is forced to evaluate whether the controller could have handled the emergency or not. If the moderator decides he could have, then the controller may lose POSCON points.

Here is a quick update on how our server update rate affects various aspects of the network... in this case multiplayer traffic. When we started this project, our goal was to develop a server protocol that allowed for formation flying... we are getting really close to meeting that goal! See for yourself. In demo #1, we were running the server on the same machine as the flight simulator, so it was a tad jittery. In demo #2, we are showing how a multiplayer will look on landing.

Hey Guys , Is there a possibility to add an option in the ATC Client for streaming the ATC Audio (even low bitrate is fine). I was hoping POSCON can have something like LivePOSCONATC (similar to LiveATC) . It would be also a great training tool for the Newbies especially those who are nervous to communicate via Voice. It can be used by Supervisors or just enthusiast (like me) who wish to listen to certain ATC Channel ? .

Looks like you are gonna have to find something better then because everyone will be taking a pilot evaluation prior to connecting. This evaluation is a short quiz to assess your knowledge. If you have thousands of hours on other networks, then you should have absolutely no problems with the eval and there will be no additional work required prior to connecting. However, there are many people that have thousands of hours on other networks and still lack basic knowledge. For those individuals, we will require and provide additional training prior to connecting.

The POSCON team has been diligently working to develop the next generation flight simulation network.... all while keeping it 100% FREE for our users. FEATURE UPDATES Alright, now lets get to the good stuff! Unlike similar network projects that boast concept renderings of features to attract interest, we are only going to list the amazing features that we have either completed or are well into the development phase on: A server update rate that will allow for formation flying. This has always been a benchmark for our development team and by using modern server development techniques, such as those in online action games, this will be a reality. Web-based pilot client. This may sound weird, but it is going to be absolutely amazing! Imagine being able to leave your computer to run an errand, make dinner, or even watch the football game! This is totally possible with a web-based pilot client. You will be able to answer messages, connect or disconnect, and access a whole host of features from your tablet or mobile device. Air traffic controllers, how about putting your printers to good use? Flight strips will be both electronic and printable. In all cases, flight strips will remain in the FDIO (Flight Data Input/Output) system after a user logs off, so the sequence at a tower will not be lost. Real world D-ATIS (Digital Automated Terminal Information Service) broadcasts will be available 100% of the time even at unstaffed airports that support D-ATIS. POSCON recently became an official provider of digital services from the FAA, and D-ATIS is just one of the many services we will be integrating into POSCON. Voice communication will mirror the real world precisely. We can guarantee, with confidence, that our voice protocol will meet or exceed your expectations. How can we guarantee this? Because real world airline pilots and controllers are on our team and testing every aspect of our network to ensure high fidelity! UPDATE ON DONATIONS A few months ago we stopped accepting donations from the community. This decision was made because POSCON found an angel investor to fund the entire project for years to come. I actually rather not reveal our master plan to how this will work, but pilot training has been well thought out and planned. A couple of things that I will reveal: There will be an entrance "evaluation". There will be a way that pilots are held accountable for blatant mistakes. There will be a "ranking" system. I want to keep this part of the project a little bit vague because it will separate us from other networks. It is extremely hard not to tell all the details because I am super excited about it.
