I've put a oceanic procedures document in the downloads sector, Are you aiming for something like that? -
That's amazing! Only a month to wait till Vegas, shame I can't be here

I tried controlling with ivac2 a while ago, but didn't have much success figuring it out. also java

Using CPDLC as a structured text system I think will be very helpful for new pilots, as they'll still feel part of it, but be more restricted to the "right way" in how to give the info to ATC

On VATSIM/IVAO, CTR positions cover everything from enroute down to delivery. That's effective in some cases as it allows coverage throughout the whole system with only one controller, but in many cases means that enroute controllers don't get to focus on their main job, the enroute bit, and instead have to worry about large numbers of airports, which degrades service throughout the system. Is the intention to do this also, have a hybrid model (maybe have some CTRs cover top-down, some just their own airspace, [and maybe aerodrome cover top-down too])?

Looking good, nice choice of code editor

On the subject of pilot clients, lots of ESP sim users I've spoken to don't like the fact that if you'e got only one screen, you have to keep alt-tabing between your pilot client and sim, whereas with the current old-generation ones for IVAO and VATSIM you have it built into your view of the simulator, so you only need one app open, and no need to tab between them. Will that be possible with the new clients?

I've done some research into iTEC (interim technology for european control according to NATS, or interoperatability through european collaboration) and have found that it's made by Indra systems, and available for other ANSPs to purchace on contract, likley for rather large sums of money. Their contact details are [email protected] , perhaps it's worth asking them if something could be agreed on (although i'm skeptical you'll be able to get any actual software for security reasons, they might part with some user manuals or something) I've also contacted some of my ATC friends to see if they'd be able to assist
-
Most of the non-US clients are very strongly proprietry, developed by ANSPs like NATS or companies like Thales, so finding good documentation will be near-impossible. Having said that, there are going to be a whole host of controllers our there that have experience using the software, so maybe getting them onboard might be helpful. I for one would really like to see the UK's AC (enroute) software, known as iTEC (a really nice looking and easy to use piece of software, with great coordination traits) or EXCDS (a combined canadian-UK flight strip system)

Have a look at https://padlet.com/aeroniemi/posconuksop i've collated the things i've worked on already, feel free to add what you've done (columns - other facilities, rows - other data and docs) -
Welcome to the British!
aeroniemi replied to Andrew Heath's topic in United Kingdom Division's General Discussion
I'd assume it would be, as it is in reality, but the details would be worked out closer to the time of implementation -
it's been there for quite a while; have a look below for all the countries that already have been requested: https://forums.poscon.net/clubs/

UK Division SOP creation
aeroniemi replied to Lukas Svaton (1012163)'s topic in United Kingdom Division's General Discussion
I think the best method here is to come up with a set of sections that need to exist for all airports in the UK, and then from that add extra sections as require at airports such as EGKK and EGLL. Maybe we should make some sort of shared thing to confer on these plans (i'll see what I can come up with), and allow people to add and edit the info that they know -
Certainly in europe on vatsim people under 18, and often under 16 make up a good 30-40% of pilots, many of which are as good, or better than some of the older people.

No matter how much stuff POSCON makes themselves; there will always be people wanting to make statistics; maps; radar screens; websites with SSO login etc. What kind of APIs do you intend to make available to developers outside of POSCON, such as for intergrating into ProjectFly or similar? Will the SSO be accessable to external sites, similar to VATSIM? Will APIs for flight data be available in nearer real-time like IVAO?

One could even have a dynamic tour system, that generates flights based on ATC and other pilot's activity

Airports in Overseas Territories
aeroniemi replied to aeroniemi's topic in United Kingdom Division's General Discussion
Gibraltar is a strange one, as far as i'm aware, the airport is owned by the MoD, but serves primerally civilian traffic, and has civilian controllers on contract through the standard civil UK atc authority, NATS -
Rather than that, given all the other changes that seem to have occurred to the client, I was thinking more along the lines of their being likely SDK changes, which would have the potential to break other plugins, as happened between ES 3.1 and 3.2

Eurocontrol has been using these things called FABs, functional airspace blocks, whereby a group of countries (or FIRs within countries, in some cases) work together, a bit like as a division to improve links between them, upgrade to combined and compatible software, decrease costs, coordinate airspace changes and much more. They're generally made up of 2-3 FIRs, so perhaps that might work as a grouping solution for Europe, or else making similar concepts, maybe by grouping what are likely to be higher traffic FIRs with lower ones, so as to encourage these low traffic areas to increase traffic.

On that note, will ES plugins from vatsim be compatible with the poscon variant?

Clearly i'm pursuing the wrong career path - should become a spy

Flightplanning can in some cases be one of my favorite things to do. As previously stated, some form of ACARS is being worked on; given that ACARS works with the company flight dispatch, it seems like an obvious option to allow for company flight dispatch, maybe with a seporate atc-like qualification. it'd probably improve the quality of people's flightplans, as well as allowing them to ask things to "the company" such as stands, flight codes etc

The UK has quite a few airports that are not within "Britain" as such, like LXGB Gibraltar, LCRA Akrotiri, EGYP Mount Pleasant, FHSH St Helena etc. What would the intended status be of these sites from a controlling perspective; would they fall under a UK division, or the local one, such as Cyprus for LCRA? Additionally, one of the complaints i've been informed of from VATSIM is that controllers from the area around one of these fields, such as cypriot or Spanish controllers find it difficult to get approved on these positions, in part due to a different system, although I can assume other factors are present.
