Overview. Edinburgh Airport (IATA: EDI, ICAO: EGPH) is an airport located in the Ingliston area of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is located 5 NM (9.3 km; 5.8 mi) west of the city centre.
Runway Use. In calm conditions, Runway 24 is the preferred runway if the tailwind component is less than 5kts and the runway surface is dry. When there is a strong crosswind, then the tail wind component should be calculated and the general trend should be assessed.
Transponder Use on Ground. Once on the stand, set the transponder code to 2000 before switching it off.
Scenery. There are multiple add-on sceneries available for Edinburgh Airport. if you are using FSX/P3D, we strongly recommend that you download one because they incorporate recent updates that are not included in default scenery. If you decide to fly with scenery that is not included in the approved list, then make every effort to follow the controllers' instructions referencing the published taxiway diagrams.

Start-up Clearances. Start clearance will be provided once the aircraft is ready for pushback. Aircraft will request pushback once ready to do so from Ground. Single engine piston aircraft and smaller GA/business aircraft may not need pushback as can taxi straight off stand. Aircraft may be instructed to push back onto another stand if they have a slot to wait for so as not to obstruct the taxiway. In order to allow for another aircraft to taxi out or into an adjacent stand, aircraft may be instructed to carry out a ‘long push’ to abeam a specific stand.

Taxi Procedures. Code E/F aircraft must only depart from Holding Points A1 and D1. Code E aircraft are limited to:
- Taxiway E from E1 as far as Stand 2A
- Taxiway M from M1 to M3
- Taxiway G between G1 and Stand 25
Aircraft up to and including Code D are permitted to pass abeam each other on taxiway Lima and taxiway Mike. When a Code E aircraft is on taxiway Lima or taxiway Mike, the other taxiway (Mike or Lima) is available for up to and including code C aircraft.
When a maximum Code C aircraft is stationary at L2, any aircraft up to maximum Code E is permitted to pass behind on taxiway Golf. Aircraft pushing back from Stands 15A and 15B facing north may be instructed to pull forward to L2, if necessary.
At either end of Taxiway A, passing places (V and W loops) have been provided to allow aircraft to hold and/or pass aircraft holding on the Taxiway Alpha. Aircraft may pass other aircraft at these locations only when both aircraft concerned have a wingspan of less than 36m.

Speed Restrictions. Unless otherwise instructed or approved by ATC, aircraft are to be operated within the following speed bands when below FL 100:
- 210-250 KT IAS on intermediate approach;
- 180-210 KT IAS on base leg;
- 160-180 KT IAS on final approach between 10 NM and 4 NM from touchdown.
Aircraft unable to comply must inform ATC.
Missed Approaches.
- RWY 24 - Climb straight ahead to 3000, then continue as directed. RCF:Climb straight ahead to 3000, then turn right to NDB(L) EDN at 3000.
- RWY 06 - Climb straight ahead to 3000, then continue as directed. RCF:Climb straight ahead to 3000, then turn left to NDB(L) UW at 4000.
ATC Procedures. Inbound Aircraft other than on Airways/Advisory Routes Aircraft wishing to enter the CTR/CTA under IFR direct from the FIR must observe the normal procedure for joining Controlled Airspace.
For aircraft joining from the North or Northeast, clearance via GRICE to UW for Runway 06 or direct to EDN for Runway 24 should be anticipated.
Pilots inbound to Edinburgh under VFR must contact Edinburgh Approach Control prior to entering the CTR/CTA and may be required by ATC to route via the published Visual Reference Points.
Inbound Aircraft on Airways/Advisory Routes Aircraft flying in the Airways or Advisory Routes System will be cleared into the CTR/CTA without having to request a specific entry clearance.
