A027 - Land and Hold Short Operations

OpSpec A027 authorizes a Virtual Operator to conduct Land and Hold Short Operations (LAHSO) on the Positive Control Network. Certificate holders must meet certain requirements for operational policies, procedures, and training for LAHSO before the Virtual Operator Inspector (VOI) may issue this OpSpec. No operator may participate in LAHSO unless he his trained to conduct this type of operations.

Requirement for Participating in LAHSO

Operators may not participate in LAHSO and POSCON will not issue OpSpec A027 until the following are met:

1)    Virtual Operator Inspector (VOI).

a)    Each VOI must review the following:

  • Needs to review the ATC training material within the division to ensure that air traffic controllers are well trained to conduct LAHSO at specific airports. 

b)    Each VOI must ensure the following actions have been accomplished before issuing or re‑issuing, as appropriate, OpSpec A027:

  • The Virtual Operator has instituted member training on LAHSO;
  • The Virtual Operator has provided members with all necessary information needed to conduct LAHSO; and
